This Honeywell FC100A1037 is a replacement media air cleaner filter that supplies large levels of MERV filtration to help eliminate airborne particles.

The item itself works well as I have ordered it before. My complaint is that it came crushed in the package due to bad packaging by the vendor requiring us to patch it up before using.

- The big problem with air filters has two parts 1) Price -- they are very overpriced (marked up over cost) and 2) Performance -- You have no way to tell if a replacement or knock off is well made until you see and can't tell how it performs without prolonged use or testing or both.

When a seller offer a Honeywell replacement -- that might mean a Honeywell item or an off brand that has roughly the same shape and size to probably fit and might or might not perform as well. With some sellers, you can't tell if you're actually going to get a substitute until the product arrives--unless you contact hem and ask first. Plumbing Planet sells genuine items. Other sellers have been reported to not do so. If you are more concerned about issue 2 above than issue 1, then buy from Plumbing Planet and get the genuine item. If 1 means more, then take your chances with a seller offering replacements/substitutes.

Note that even the Honeywells are mostly paper - but the knock offs and substitutes can make you come unglued -- as some of them arrive unglued, or have less filter material (thinner or fewer pleats), weaker quality control. Some of them will probably work just fine or at least well enough. So you have to decide what you care about most. Some things to consider when comparing to the original Honeywell:

Made with moisture resistant frame to remain sturdy even in high humidity

In any case, shop around. A year ago I found this item selling for 42% less than the typical price right now.
